Breaking Free From Your Biggest Fear... My Story Will Shock You

Crissy Conner Season 15 Episode 571

I used to say, “I’ll do anything to grow… but I won’t do that.”
That “that”? It was video. Visibility. Letting myself be fully seen.

In this raw, personal story, I’m pulling back the curtain on the fear that almost kept me from everything I have now, clients, confidence, opportunities, and the identity I’m known for today. What started as avoidance became the foundation of my entire brand. Because your biggest fear? It might just be the gateway to your purpose.

(Transcribed by TurboScribe.ai. Go Unlimited to remove this message.) I remember having this, I won't do that. Like I'll do anything, but I won't do that. Very similar to the song. I will do anything, but I won't do that back in the day. And that was truly what started my visibility journey. I was willing to do whatever it took, except get on video. I was willing to do whatever it took, except get uncomfortable. I was willing to do whatever it took, except, right? There was always that, but, and that exception in there. And it's interesting because I used to say video changed my life. Now today I know it was getting uncomfortable, changed my life. And I've really utilized that scenario in everything that I've done. Everything that I've done has been a journey of getting uncomfortable, getting uncomfortable, create success, realize what I thought was bad or hard really wasn't, find a way to implement it, create it in my own way and do it over and over and over again with continued success and then teach it. And it's interesting because even though at the beginning visibility was my hesitation, I think I can honestly say it's been the hesitation over and over again, which is why the brand really switched from the visibility queen to the visible CEO, because there are always parts of us, of our visibility strategy, of our business, of our messaging, of our offers that we are hiding and we're not being fully clear or visible in them. And so the biggest fear was also my biggest hesitation. And the thing that I knew that I needed kept avoiding. And I can honestly say this has been a repeatable process in my business that I've gone through because when I realize I'm avoiding something, when I realize I'm not doing something because it's uncomfortable, there's a lesson, first of all, hands down for me. And then there's a lesson for everybody else because odds are even in your own business, if there's something that you're not doing or you're avoiding or you uncover, I bet you there's a thousand plus other people doing the same thing, right? Probably in your circle. And so visibility really felt like exposure, exposing myself. It felt risky. It felt a little too, I was worried about people thinking that, Oh, I just think you should look at me and, and watch me. And who does she think she is to put herself out there? I had a lot of those thoughts. And, you know, when we look back at 2016, 17, 18, even 2019, not everybody was on video, right? Not everybody was putting themselves out there. We didn't have the TikTok started getting popular around 2019, I believe, but really people weren't still getting on video. They were way more watchers and consumers than creators. And I still don't think there's more creators. However, it just seems like it because it propelled with 2020. And so for years and years and years, I'll do anything, but I won't do that. Right. And although I was getting visible pre 2019, really didn't own that visibility was my thing until 2019. And it all happened because I was told to niche down, which we all are in some way niche down. And I couldn't think of anything because I had so many clients and there were a variety of industries and nothing really tied them together, except the fact that I was doing social media at the time. And I knew that I was making them more visible. And so everything came from visibility because I also found out that the clients I attracted also did not like video, hence why I was doing their content. And every single one of them ended up getting on video because I show to them and prove to them, I can do your content all day long, but if you're willing to get on video, we're going to 10 access, we're going to make this such a game changer. The platform should be such a game changer for you. So even with hesitation from my clients, we made it happen. And so I went early summer of 2019. I was like, I need a domain. I'm just going to see if the visibility queen is out there. It was available. I bought it. And I remember talking to my coach and saying, you know, what am I supposed to do? Just tell people, Hey, I'm the visibility queen here. I am. And she said, well, first of all, you're going to have to introduce yourself like Denarius Targaryen did, right? She had to tell people her name, who she was, her really long title. She introduced herself everywhere that she went. And eventually people started introducing her. She never even had to mention who she was or what she was about or what her lineage was or anything like that. And that's actually came true because I rebranded and I don't call myself the visibility queen anymore. I, my brand is the visible CEO and people still use those words. She's the visibility queen, the queen of visibility. That's what I hear all the time. And so it's just very, very interesting how that all transpired. But when I bought that domain name, I don't know. I don't believe at the time I was the visibility queen, but I bought that domain and I realized, you know what? I'm going to do whatever it takes. I will become her. And I had this massive identity shift. Yeah. I wanted to be known for visibility, but the visibility queen was a little strong, right? But the domain was available. So that it was meant to be. And I really started showing up as her and it grew and people knew who I was. People stopped me in the grocery store. People stopped me at my daughter's birthday party, two towns away. And so things like that started happening. And I realized that it was really starting to work. And I know that there is somewhere in your life or your business that you aren't fully visible. And although I don't necessarily just say get on video anymore, because there's so much to it. There's so many nuances there. I do know there are people that are hiding and maybe you are on video. Maybe you are consistent, but there's somewhere that you're hiding. There's somewhere that you're not fully showing up in the way that you could. You're not fully showing up in your power. You're not fully showing your audience who you are, your aura, your conviction, your love and passion for what you do. If you could just take a second and just close your eyes and really feel deep down inside why you love doing what you do, why you're obsessed doing what you do, why you are so convicted that people should do your way, your method, your framework, whatever it is that you teach, and really get deep with that. So many of us walk around like there's a million people that do what I do, but what if there weren't? What if there aren't? And you have just not decided to own that you're a category of one that you have no competition. I mean, let's think about this for a second. You wake up every single day and you have no competition. I know for a fact, the only way I became the visibility queen was because I had no competition. None. Matter of fact, when I did see things come about that said, I'm a visibility expert. I'm like, what? No, you're not. I am. That's me. And I'll never forget one of my clients. She found this visibility challenge and the person was calling this challenge. The visibility queen challenge is the client I was running ads for. And she was a really big coach. And like, I totally respect her. And I remember her sending this to me and she's like, they're copying you. They're copying your name. Now, do I believe that's true? No, not necessarily. But I thought it was interesting that she was like, oh my gosh, they're trying to become you. They have a visibility queen challenge. And it was, it was overseas somewhere. And I just thought it was funny because she was like ready to fight for me. And I'm just like, I don't even care. Like, I think it's cool. Like whatever. It doesn't even matter to me because I was so ingrained that I am a category of one. I am the person who teaches people how to get visible. Why? Not because I just decided one day. It's because I hated it. It's because of the blood, sweat, and tears, the hives, the ums, the mistakes, the fears, the overwhelmed, all of the words that will stop you, the upper limits, all of those things halted me from going all in on me. And so the thing is, is that I owned, I was a category of one and yeah, you can say, well, yeah, back in 2019, Chrissy, like nobody was online. So of course you could have maybe, but I can still do it today. Even as a rebrand of the visible CEO, because I see CEOs, I see entrepreneurs, I see the things that they're hiding. I know when I show up with you in person and you're online, you're somebody totally different. I know there's a disconnect there and your audience feels it too. I know when a woman stands in her power and is consistent on video, specifically face to cam, that that's when she becomes visible and in demand. There are a lot of nuances that go with that. There are a lot of, um, trainings that I'm going to teach you, um, inside of visible and demand to help you do that. But when we decide, just like I decided I am the visibility queen, like I'm gonna, I wasn't her, but I bought the domain and I became her even though people still call me that. Right. Even though I've rebranded, I became the thing that I once avoided. I became the one of the thing that I once avoided. That's powerful right there. That's magic. And I believe and know, and I'm actually very certain that visibility, true visibility, when you understand how not only to be visible, but how to be in demand, I know that it will change you, not just your brand. It can't, it can't change your brand without changing you. You will change in the process. You will become a much different version of yourself and you will take on that identity and you will show up accordingly. You don't become known by waiting until you feel confident. I didn't wait to show up on video until I, you know, people knew I was the visibility queen. I had to be her before people knew it. I had to become her before people would ever start saying that about me or introducing me that way. And you truly become known by deciding to show up as her, as that category of one, as the one, as the superstar, as the authority, as the expert. And it is going to be scary. Sometimes it's going to feel awkward. Sometimes it's going to feel messy until it's natural. Video sometimes to this day still feels messy for me. It doesn't always feel natural, but the more I own who I am, the more I own the conversation I'm about to have with someone online. Maybe it's you today that I know someone needs to hear. It does become natural. And the beautiful thing is you name what you're known for. You name what you're the one of, right? You claim it. And then you act accordingly. And then people will start naming it for you and calling you that it doesn't happen any other way. We are going to deepen this work so much inside of visible and in demand. And I know that people are going to change. I'm going to change their, their lives. Yes. Their businesses are going to be a ripple effect but I know that this is going to set you up for so much success. So many opportunities, yes, sales, but so many other things being in demand for stages, be in demand for maybe writing your book, being a guest speaker, like so many opportunities. I get asked a lot without applying to things because I show up authentically as category of one, knowing what I bring to the table. So when you're done hiding from being in demand, because some people have a fear of success, right? This is your program. And we're going to build so much confidence. We're going to build so much clarity. We're going to build so much presence of you on camera. This is not a let's get on video program. It's a, you're already on video. Let's take this to the next level program. It's really not about being the loudest. It truly is about being unforgettable. It's not your customer's job to remember who you are. It's your job to make sure they absolutely never have the opportunity to forget.
