If your favorite social media platform profile, the one where you do most of your business, the one where you feel like you attract the most people, if it were all to be deleted tomorrow, if you went into whatever platform jail, would you still feel like you have a business or would you feel like what's the use? Why bother? So many people are so concerned with their numbers. And as someone who used to paid ads, did organic social media strategy, management, whatever, right? For clients, metrics were a big thing. They were a big thing because it is like, let me show this client that I am worth keeping on. because social media, it's not my job to make sales, right? I am just driving traffic to whatever. It's their job to actually make the sales, but the traffic that is driving to the website is really important. So those numbers were really huge. So for me to go from someone who obsessed the numbers to someone who, I won't say that I don't care, but I will say I'm much less led by my numbers than I used to be. I did this in 2023, 2022, 2022. I had an Instagram account with 11,000 followers. It was dead. It was dead. I had had it since 2017. I had evolved so much since I created that Instagram account. And I'll never forget the things that were said to me when I decided to start over. Like, people attached that to my identity and people assumed that, they all said it. Some people said I was crazy to my face. Like, why are you doing that? Why does that make sense to you? Like people just couldn't understand. And it really helped me see how attached we are to the numbers and even what people thought of me was attached to the numbers. And it's insane to me because Like once I started my new account, was like crushing my old account and my new account, I think still only has maybe 15, 1800 followers. And that's insane. But most people would believe that the 11,000 account would have been making me more money so that I should have stuck with that. So the first thing I wanna say is that the level of followers, the number of followers that you have is no indication of how much money you make. There are too many people in this world that can buy followers. So if you're looking at other people and admiring what they're doing, you can buy followers. You can, there's bots, you can buy likes, you can buy comments, you can buy so many things today, right? And so when you look at someone's account, my gosh, they got X, Y, Z. It's also number one, a mystery, typically how they got that many. But a lot of times as someone who's ran social media, I can look at their account and I've been on some podcasts that have huge numbers like 200,000. And I go look and there's like hardly any likes I'm like, okay, these were bought. These are totally bought. Like, you should have at least Oh, what is it? Is it 2 % or 1 %? Engagement rate I think is on average, but they weren't even getting that and I could tell that those were bought. And so metrics are not everything. So if you are allowing metrics to lead you and to find you and to say if I'm worthy or not, we gotta talk. So, we all have an algorithm addiction. We allow it to shrink our message and dilute our leadership. how many people every morning after you post something, be honest, I can't hear you, but be honest with yourself. Do you go post? Well, maybe not even the next day. Maybe it's like you keep refreshing the screen or even maybe you put up a new program and you refresh the screen to see how many people click on it or you post and you're like 10 minutes later, I don't have like 20 comments by now, what's wrong? We are so led, it's almost like an addiction. It is a dopamine hit that you validate me when I post something. And so there is this invisible cost when you tie your worth to the numbers because your creativity dies, your leadership hides, you start to think, well, you know, evidently that's not working. That's not working. And here's the thing, I've never had huge accounts. mean, I have... what on my new Instagram, my newer Instagram account, like 1500, my TikTok, 5,000 or not quite 5,000, um, Facebook followers, like 6,000 LinkedIn connections, like 3000, my YouTube, uh, subscribers are not quite 700. My Pinterest followers are not quite 800 or whatever you call them on Pinterest. And so I want you to think about this for a second. I have led a multi six figure business without ever going viral. I've been mini viral, but it's not the same viral means 10 million plus mini viral means five to 10 times what your normal views are. And I've never had a huge following that Instagram account did not make me any money when it was 11 K. That's why I left it. That's why it was so easy to say goodbye to that. And so when we focus on the numbers, when we focus on refreshing our screen, what is it? A watch pot does not boil, you know? We're also probably the same people that are refreshing our screen or people buying yet. I just posted this offer and you know, waiting on the numbers, waiting on something to validate me. And this is where we lose our power. This is where we give it away. This is where we aren't focused on the thing that matters. And we're gonna see a drop in our confidence, a drop in our conviction, a drop in our leadership, a drop in our standards, because it is causing us to waver. When you can focus on the mission, the message, the movement over the measurement, the game changes. Now, that does not mean that I don't strive for growth. I do strive for growth. And I do things when I see things being stagnant, I do shift things. However, like for instance, my Instagram was way down. I realized what I was doing wasn't working. I shifted my visuals, I shifted some of my strategies, and then I got to 11 times what my low views were. And I've seen it sink back down a little bit, but I'm not stressed about it. It is the name of the game. Just like you can have a dip in revenue, you can have a dip in numbers. It does not define you. We also have to think that the algorithms are changing all the time, all the time. And so if we're chasing the algorithm and chasing the numbers again, we're going to feel our worthiness and so many other things drop. And I don't want that for you. So the real brand building questions that you should be asking yourself is, what do I want to be known for? And am I showing up accordingly, right? Or am I showing up in so many different facets and topics that I've confused my audience? The second thing is how do I want people to feel when they hear me speak? How do I want them to feel? What do I want them to take away from it? And then what's the ripple do I wanna create? when I would teach people who didn't wanna get on video how to get on video, I would ask, okay, if you knew, you didn't know, you didn't have proof, but you just knew deep down inside that you changed somebody's life from that video, And they're like, no, I'd get on video. Of course. Nobody's ever told me no. So don't tell me no. But that ripple effect, right? That, that, that changing someone's life, even if you don't see the monetary value right away is huge and it's happening. People are watching. Okay. Maybe it's only 20 people, but I read what 20 people is you're feeling like a small conference room, right? And if 200 people, are watching. 200 people are watching. That's like a movie theater, right? If 2000 people are watching, it's like a little arena. If 20,000 people are watching, it's like a stadium, right? would you be mad to have a conference room full of 20 people who are your ideal person listening to what you had to say? Absolutely not. So stop being mad when you only get 20 views or 200 views. Because the fact is, is that the algorithm does work better for us than it ever has because it doesn't just stick with our followers, it goes into what the interests, right? So a lot more people are able to see that content. So I wanna challenge you to stop being a performer on social media. And what I mean by this is that you're performing for the algorithm, you're performing for the likes, you're performing for... the comments you're performing versus being the real authentic genuine version of you. Again, taking your power away, watering you down. You're probably just trying to do what everybody else is doing. And the thing is, is that you, real you, who you are, is what will work. So can we track our alignment versus focusing so much on the analytics? Like what am I proud of this? Is this authentically me? Is this something I would really say? And if this is something that you struggle with, like I challenge you to start, if you wanna engage, engage before you post, post and then leave. and don't go back until later. Like give it some time. But if you notice you're being controlled by the numbers and that it is taking your focus away from other things and you're almost addicted to looking at the numbers, I'm raising my hand here friends because I've been there. I have been addicted to looking at the numbers. Like I said, this was my job was to look at the numbers. So for me to say, don't look at, it's not that I don't look at the numbers, I just definitely don't look at the numbers and let the numbers bother me as much as I used to, right? The other thing that you can do is build trust with your audience through other ways, like real conversations. And I don't mean they have to be real in person. Of course they can be, but getting conversations going with people on their content through the DMs, right? Having referrals, like really talking to people, like social media was created to be social, to be social. Another thing that I see that is coming into play and I know it's gonna be more important than ever is creating more searchable content, thinking long-term versus short-term. I know there's a place for both, but what about content where you're searchable and you're not necessarily showing up on somebody's and that content is, the longevity of that content is much more than something that you post on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, right? Because the longevity opportunity is there because of the searchability, right? It gets better with age. It gets better with the searches. It gets better the more it shows up in people's searches. And as far as, know, one thing I say is I judge my results not by the algorithm, but by my bank account. And so because I say that, I wanna, Prefaces to say like I do believe your results are a mirror not of your worth but of your presence of the clarity you have of the conviction you have for what you do and Results just reflect how you're showing up not just what you're doing So like did you hold back for example? Were you trying to please everyone and create likable content? Were you friend zoning your audience right? Did you shrink your message or water it down to stay safe? You're not gonna get a lot of results from that. And I'm not even talking about the algorithm, I'm talking about the conversions that could come with it. Results often dip when you're disconnected from your voice, not because your offer sucks, not because you think you suck, not because you priced it too high. It is a disconnect from your voice, from who you really are, from the conviction and the confidence that backs that up, right? When you are your own biggest fan, your results start to follow, but you have to believe, I won't even say that, you have to know with certainty, scratch believe, you have to know with certainty that you can get people results with the offer, the service, the product that you have, because people feel when you're lit up. And that knowing, that certainty is magnetic. And when we lead with conviction, that is going to sell more than perfection, than polish, than overproduced or any of those types of things. If your results are slower than you'd like, stop asking what's wrong with me. Nothing's wrong with you, right? But ask yourself, where am I still waiting for permission to go all in? to show up as the version of me that I am in person with my clients, right? This is just an opportunity to create like a reflection. It's not rejection because just because the message isn't clear to them right now and they're feeling the pull and the emotions right now doesn't mean that they won't later. So I want you to think about this. Your results are not judging you. They're just reflecting how you are truly showing up. And when you can show up more fully you, the more fully they respond. Now I'm also saying this, if you've not been consistent at all and you show up one time and you're really convicted and you really believe in your offer, but nobody buys, right? That is a consistency thing. And we just get to be more consistent with those actions. But here's the thing. The next level version of you, she is not watching the numbers, friends. She's watching her impact. And matter of fact, she's certain about her impact, even if she doesn't see it in front of her face. And because of that, there are clients who are ready to pay her. They're ready to work with her. They feel pulled to make that decision. doesn't matter the price tag, what matters is the results and the transformation that she provides. And if you want that to be you, shift how you're showing up, stop allowing the numbers to own you, stop allowing the algorithms to control you. and have fun with your content, like feel your content, have conviction about your content and don't make it such a chore and feel like I have to do all these things. Yes, there is a strategy. Yes, there are things that work, but learn to have fun with the process and then learn the strategies to tweak and improve. Have the desire deep down inside that conviction that literally cannot be quieted. And when you show up like that, people are gonna show up louder with their credit cards.
