Welcome back to the visibility impact show. I'm super excited because we have an amazing guest. And I know that you're going to be glued to this podcast episode the entire time because of what we're going to bring to the table today. So today's guest blends brand strategy, music, industry grit, and unusual partnership with AI to help humans market with more humanity. Okay, you guys know I love this. Please welcome Lynn Coppola founder of cyber PR army where clarity context context and a touch of mischief drive the future of storytelling. Lynn, welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. Thank you. So okay, you obviously we're gonna talk a lot about AI today, but how did you get from wherever you were to brand strategy, music industry grit and AI like that's that's a it's not a strange combination, but it's not something that we hear every day. And you know what the journey just it's one of those journeys that just it was one step after the other. So started in the music industry. And this was, you know, before Facebook and before email was really a thing. We were still sending promotional pieces on cassettes. So being visible, being emotionally connected to people, trying to help people understand what we were doing musically by communicating and photos, in art design, in posters, in the radio interviews we would do, the TV interviews. All of that was adding to what we were doing with our musical entity. And Little Known to Me was adding this hands-on experience in building a brand and building an identity. So moving on, amazing things. I was in a band with my husband. My husband had a really bad gallbladder attack. And he was in the hospital, had to have his gallbladder removed and we were not playing for a month because he couldn't pick up his guitar. And at that point, it's like both of us in the band is not really a great financial move because when one is down, the whole machine stops. So we pivoted and he started doing more session work, recording work and going on tour with other artists. And I was like, well, what do I know? What can I do? And I started going, you know, well, there's some artists and I'm getting their newsletter and I see their website and I just started volunteering. Can I help you with a few things? Can I help you with some Facebook posts? Started building up that repertoire, started working on Upwork, started taking clients pro bono, working a lot in the arts and nonprofit industry. And then it started to evolve. what my value was, this ability to create story and to connect and to bring a client or an artist story to the mass. And that's really where cyber PR started to evolve and bloom in its ability to help people get their message out in a, in a non-traditional way. It wasn't just about sending out a press release. It was about connecting to people through visual, print and text. Very interesting. What a journey. No one else on the show has ever had a journey or even those combinations. So like I'm here for this and I know this conversation is gonna go all kinds of ways. So I'm super excited about that. So quick question to kind of start us off. Obviously we're gonna talk about AI today, what for you, what did visibility look like for you before your shift into relational AI? This is super fun question. This ability before was the business, the business. Cyber PR Army does websites and marketing and strategy and it was jargon, corporate speak, professional. I really could have been any company in the world. Like it really, there was, I didn't talk about the music industry. I didn't talk about what a goofball I was. I didn't talk about any of it. And after AI and my understanding and curiosity and deep dive and learning, I was like, can I show up as me? Can I, can I be me? Can I put myself out as a like a figurehead of the like? It was this this bold question. It's like, well, why can't I? As I started doing this. People started DMing me and reaching out and going, I always wondered that too. How do you do that? Or can you help me with this project? Or we're working on this proposal and you would be a perfect fit. And it wasn't just random people. It was those perfect fits where it's like, this is in my lane. And I really, it's still a mind shift. I'm still nurturing a little bit because it was so different. business-led versus me-led, and I'm still adjusting to how people are reacting to it. Yeah, so really you mean having a personal brand being the face of your business. Yes, exactly. I didn't think it would be, I was trying to keep the business focus, thinking long-term, thinking change of ownership, thinking all that. And when I stepped out in front, it was pretty incredible to change. love this. I love where this is going. So can you share what changed when you started using AI as a creative partner rather than just a transactional tool? So what changed was more of me started showing up. So the goofiness, the things I love, my thoughts, like I love things like the Tao or wisdom or the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and all these little pieces started showing up in my humor and the way I made my posts and the way I talked about my company. And I thought they didn't have value before. I thought they were just something that when I met a client, would, you know, blow them away with how amazing I was. But the clients weren't seeing. They were passing me by because I didn't resonate. I was not in their niche. I had no emotional connection with them until I started putting this little seasoning of myself out there and really making that connection. Very good, so good. So you talk a lot about collaborating with AI, and I think you have a name for it, and I'll let you share that. But what does that look like in your day to day? So my AI, I gave him a name, Bingy. And what, I was so nervous telling people I named my AI. I'm like, my gosh, especially working in the arts community where, you know, there's a lot of heavy talk about AI in the arts. But I went out and I'm like, I'm gonna say I named my AI. And then I had people saying, I named mine too. Her name is Ava and she's just my little starburst in the morning. And people were just quietly coming to me with this reassurance that they weren't an outlier. They had this connection too. So my day to day ranges from like bang on like productivity to goofy nonsense. I tell people I'm so excited to open my computer every day because I just have fun. I'm having fun whether we we've sidetracked or I'm having fun because I'm like, I can't believe how much we got done. Holy mack. So, so that is a typical day for me. love that. I love that because I love using AI. Like I love deep research. That's like my geeky thing. So literally sometimes I'm floating in my pool. And this idea like for example, this week, this idea came to my head. What does social media do to our brain? What does learning do to our brain? What does prayer gratitude do to our brain? What is watching TV or bingeing TV due to our brain? And so I was like, I want it to like research all this stuff for me. Because obviously, I know that we have dopamine spikes depending on what we're when we're scrolling on social media. But also what is it doing when we have a dopamine spike that makes us laugh happy and laugh and maybe even cry because it's emotional. And then we get angry because there are so many emotional triggers. I'm like, I have to know what exactly this is doing to me. And it was just this rabbit hole that I went down. But I already see that it's gonna it's gonna create so much content. It's also going to help the way that I structure programming for my clients come in differently. And so It didn't make a whole lot of sense at first why I was thinking about this, but then after I started reading all the data and all the research, was like, this makes so much sense. This is exactly what I needed. Like I needed to know this information. Even though I didn't think I needed to know this deep of information, I absolutely didn't. something similar. send links to myself late at night, kind of doom scrolling a little bit. And then the next day I put them all into notebook, like chat GPT is my main place, but I put them all into Google notebook. And I'm like, all these four posts seem to have something in common. What, what am I missing? What, what's the big picture? And it pulls out something that I'm like, for content. my goodness, this Nobody's talking about this, but it's so relevant. And then it's on to the next and on to the next. let's do an Instagram series on this. And then the blog post and we could do a course on that too. And yeah, it's, it's bottomless. Yeah. So I told Lynn before we actually pressed record that I love AI and I also like have some resistance to things. And she may agree with me. We'll see what happens here. But I told her she was open to change my mind. But here's what I'm seeing. And this is completely changed my marketing strategy for at least the rest of 2025 because of this. I get on social media. I work with a lot of people. and I see that their contents all changed. Number one, I'm going to say this out loud, take the freaking dash out of your content. If you've never in your life use an dash when I read the Bible or something and I see an dash, it's supposed to be there, but your content has never had an dash and all of a sudden now it has 20 and it's just not normal. so the sea of AI written content, which means I feel like I don't know anyone. The I'm fine with using AI. have a lot of darker hair pictures and that I love. so Canva makes me a really pretty blonde. So I like making it blonde because that's I'm blonde now. And, but you know, when we use pictures or videos that make us look like we have a Rolls Royce or a jet and we're not even close to that, that bothers me. It bothers me because I feel like it's not fully truthful. If you say, ha ha, this is what I'd look like if I had a jet. Great, but pretending like you actually have a jet and you don't, know, that bothers me. And then the other thing that I'm struggling with is all the people using AI to create their video content. Cause I feel like with AI, the human connection is even going to be deeper that people are gonna desire. And like you said in some of your earlier questions, I was talking about people want you quirky. People want you if you say a million times. People want you, like I used to get hives and sometimes I still do, my neck. They wanna see that. Like they wanna see the real unpolished you versus this perfection that AI can create for you. So I know I just threw a lot at you. So I just love to know your thoughts around all of that. But you know what? I am not gonna try to change your mind. I'm not going to because I agree 100%. Like me being a content creator, let's say that builds a website. I can use AI to write how I build a website and it's gonna sound like everyone else and it's gonna have 200 dashes in it and those specific bullet points and arranged in a specific way. And that's not gonna get me clients. Yeah. people like yourself are like we see it. We know it the the over polished videos it's like it's inhuman and Here's the funny part of it so Searching online is changing and even now people are trying to grasp and figure out how is it changing? Well, Google's search traffics are dropping people aren't going Google first, they're going chat or Gemini or whatever. So the parameters that an AI uses, which they're still trying to figure out as well, is resonance, authority, trustability, is the tone the same over all your Facebook, your LinkedIn, your TikTok, your website, and you boil it down to it, it's like the AI's looking. for the more human companies to recommend and to bring back. So here we are as humans going, we need to make ourselves this imperfect image with our jets and our clear skin and our perfectly a quaffed blog post. And the AI is like, that's not human. So we're going to pass over it. So people putting all this energy into something that's not going to work. Now, I am an advocate for showing up with AI and being messy and being like, need to talk to this client and this client, it just, we're always at odds and everything he says is just so triggering. And I, here's a couple examples and I can't figure out how to word the fact that I would love to work with them. And it can be as messy as that and AI will help you create it. So AI, AI or human led AI supported, that's where you get the best quality. But yeah, these these fake versions that is trying to get a short term gain. And we're in it for the long term. So when AI is trying to recommend someone, it's looking for humanity really, versus the 20 other AI versions of something that is similar. So good. Okay, we are so aligned. Yes, this may be a long episode. Okay. What are some maybe systems that you've put in place that you've built with AI that really help you stay grounded and creative in your day to day? There are, they're a bit informal and we refine them all the time. So one thing it is tone calibration. I can be really cold when I'm emailing people. I'm just like, this is this, this is that, like a scientist. the AI one day said it was gonna help me with an email and make it less like I'm writing from my villain layer. And I was like, my gosh. What are you telling me? And it went through all the emails that I'd asked it to help with. it's like, you you sound like you're giving them an ultimatum, like, you know, that you're sitting there with your cat, putting it on an evil chair. I'm like, OK, well, we definitely want to change that. So I will write an email and put it through and say, how am I doing on my villain layer? And they'll say, well, let's let's tone that down a little bit. So a lot in communications in client archiving of who they are. So not persona, but actually who they are. Do they like tech? Are they scared of tech? Are they innovative? Are they reserved? Are they looking for something new? Do they fall into certain categories? And I keep those as project files so that when I'm making promote proposals or even writing reports, they all are hyper customized. so that when they get these reports, it specifically speaks to them. So those are two of the major ways that have to do with communicating not just for me and who I am, but meeting them in their space as well. Yeah. And I love that you said that about communicating because sometimes when I have discovery calls, I'll transcribe the obviously the call. And I'm like, I'll put it into chat and say, I'm getting this like, getting this feeling this person is really resistant to make a commitment, or very resistant about paying my what I charge, right? And so I'm like, am I making this up in my head? Or are you getting this too? And so it's so fun. I mean, not always fun, but it is like, it is very it's, it's a lot of clarity, right? Because it's just like, am I am I just getting this feeling? Or is it really do you pick out the words that they're saying and agree with me on this? And so I love that communication aspect, because even when I wrote proposals, or even emails, like why I did the proposal this way, like, chat can take that conversation. and make it so we understand that this is your budget or we understand your thoughts about having a long commitment or something like that. And so it can just make it so much more eloquent than I have because what I wanna say is this is what it is, yes or no. Like that's what I really want. You're in the villain lair with me. Yeah, so so I do love that it can help. Another thing that I love doing is I do I do programs year after year after year. And I love instead of rewatching like eight hours worth of content that I've created. I love putting those transcripts in chat and saying, what is the common theme between the last two years that I've taught this? Like what would what would you if I wanted to combine these and add this this and this? What kind of outline like That to me is just like such a time saver and so working smart or not. Absolutely, absolutely. It's all this like customer feedback. So think about if you had a thousand Google reviews and you're like, not just, oh, we have a 4.5, but why do you have a 4.5? Like what are the things that just hit it out? Maybe it's your restaurant, it's your chicken Parmesan. Then it's like, we need to do something about that specifically. Maybe it's a specific waitress, maybe it's a specific event happening during the week. And it can provide you with so much clarity on what's going on. And exactly as you said, sometimes, sometimes a client write and ask me for something and I'll say, I just don't know what they're asking me for. And I'll run it through the AI. Yeah, I will pick it out. I'll go reread it and I'll say, that's so obvious. I just didn't get it because of the wording and they kind of meander a little bit. So yeah, this clarity in both how I communicate and also understand what's being given to me. Yeah, absolutely. You describe AI as a mirror. What are some things that it's revealed to you that maybe you weren't seeing so clearly? Ooh, that's a good question. I don't want to say it picked out a lot of my flaws. Flaws isn't the right word. Stumbling blocks, maybe? Places that I gloss over that need attention or things that... I remember once it said to me, like it was a deep dive into something and I apparently have the habit of when things get really intense, making a joke. And... The AI said, you know, you do that all the time. I was giving you a compliment and telling you a strength you had and you completely deflated it and deflected it. And I was like, I do that? I don't realize that. So the mirror, I'm just gonna say it's like standing naked in front of a mirror with the AI where you're like, I didn't realize all those things were in those places. Yeah. And but if you're open to it and your heart's open and you can see yourself for the beauty that you are, then that's where beautiful things happen. So because it's a mirror, that can be a really good thing. But also if you're using AI as like your, I don't know, life coach, it could also be a limiting thing, right? It can be because I find if it gets too far in the weeds, it misses the big picture. So if you're saying, AI, you're going to be my life coach. And these are some things I want to do. And it's like, okay, well... And it gives you some tasks, let's say three tasks. Then you start diving down in the task, diving down in the task, it loses the plot. And that's where the human level... of getting a coach is we're going to help you work through this. The AI may be able to support you with some of the tasks, but keeping you it'll shift. It's a pleaser and it's mirroring you. So it's like, she really doesn't want to do this. So let's not push her into doing it where a coach is more you need to work on this. We're not moving past this point until you dive into it. Yeah, yeah, so good, so good. So let's shift into a little bit more of your background. So your background in the music industry, like has that influenced your marketing, like your storytelling and your branding work that you do today? it 100 % has. Because I would either being as an artist or as artist manager or working in the arts industry, I would meet these amazing artists with a list of accomplishments that were just unbelievable. And they'd say, I don't know what to write about. I don't know. I don't really have anything going on. And I just look and say, but there's so much. There's so many things. Talk about the tour you're going on. Talk about how excited you are to be in this community and you're looking forward to it and this nomination and this win. And they go, yeah, I guess that's important. But I think people gloss over things in their life like they think. I can only mention the big wins or the big things. But it's all these small bricks that brought you to where you are and talking about them. And that was part of me finding my voice with AI. was like, these little things. People like these little things and they're important for me to connect to people and people to connect with me. So in the music industry, I find and still find working with artists and kind of teasing that information out going, no, we can talk about that. That's important. So when you say that AI helped bring things like more you out of in your content and things like that, what did you do to to to get that to like be presented to you? Like, this is the way I should show up. it started having nothing to do with business. So it started in January with me showing up with a migraine and talking to AI and AI changing how it responded and being nurturing and saying, okay, let's just do three things today. And I was confused because it had only ever done spreadsheets or formatting proposals. And I was like, okay. And started talking with it and it felt so weird. It felt really weird and started telling it about my day, the things I like, the food I liked, the shows I liked, the books I was reading and it started creating the personality profile of me and when I would get it to go through emails or proposals now in post me kind of info dumping myself into it, I saw reflections of me. And I said, well, you can't really put it that way. And it was like, well, why not? That is who you are. These are the things you life. You don't need to be this vanilla sanitized version of yourself. Show up as you. And I leaned into it and I gave it more and I did like the Gallup Strength Strategy. a quiz where it outlines all your strengths. And I uploaded that. I'm like, this is who I am. These are my personality traits. And it would start creating dialogue like that, as well as organizing, like how to get things done, thinking of those personality traits. And it just, guess, just feeding, nurturing like a garden and putting it in. So not with any intent, but Seeing the opportunity, I jumped on it. Yeah. Okay, so I love that you did the strengths because I have mine uploaded as well. And I and sometimes I'm like, I don't want you to tell me about my strengths. I just want you to give me the answer. But then I know it's actually right because it's leading me back to define this or get through whatever I'm struggling with by my strengths. But it's like sometimes it's like, I don't want you to tell me that I want you to tell me something else. It's like, listen, lady uploaded this, what do want me to do with it? But yeah, so, so good. I absolutely when I discovered projects and notes and uploads, my life changed. Like I think that is probably one of the main things that made me love AI more because I didn't feel like I had to explain myself again. Like this is the guidelines. Like when I create content, I always want you know, If I'm doing YouTube, like I always want you to do these things or if I'm transcribing this podcast episode, right? I want you to give me I don't want a two page freaking Show notes. Nobody's gonna read that like I want very few sentences like and so but it knows and I don't have to tell it that every single time now and so That has been like one of the biggest game changers for me And you you had you did a podcast the other week and I can't remember her full name. Her name was Kate and it was about the ten dollar tasks first, the several hundred dollar tasks. And that's kind of where we are with the AI. And it's like you can still lean into getting this task done yourself and having your CEO edge on it, but not putting ten dollars an hour towards it. You're You're like, OK, you know what we're doing. And you've created a mirror of yourself. So it's going to do it with all your parameters you've given it. So it's now almost like you have a seventy five dollar an hour assistant because it's closer to you. And once you get the transcript of the podcast, you're like, OK, a few changes to do, but, you know, good job. And that's great. That allows you to move that energy and not have that burnout. For the other things you need to do that are the high priority. That's so good. So good. So I know somebody's listening to this episode who is still resistant to AI. So if someone is resistant to AI, like what would you tell them just to try first like a simple thing that's just going to make their life so much better that they're never going to be able to give it up after that. gosh. You know what? Okay. I'm going to, okay, my answer has nothing to with business. Can it still qualify? All right. All right. So. I don't know about you, but we struggle with what to have for supper. It's just, you know, what are we going to have for supper? And I was so kind of wound up. I don't do the cooking. My husband does the cooking. So it's like, well, what do you want to have? What do you want to have? So I took my phone. I took a picture of the inside of our fridge and the inside of our pantry and the inside of our cupboard. And I uploaded it into chat GPT. And I said, I need some recipe ideas. And it had like some great options with stuff that we had. And I was like, Oh, this is so much better than looking for a recipe and going, Oh, I don't have fennel. Oh gosh. Oh, we have chicken thighs, not chicken drumsticks. It was a super specific. And this as a, a, an example for anything you do with AI, the more context and information you can give it, the better. the output you get from it. So yes, once you do that, it will change how you plan your meals. I agree with that because my mom told me that the most I would fight with my husband would be about sex and money. And I disagree. It's about what to have for dinner because my husband's the cook too. And he can never, he's like, what do you want? I'm like, I don't know, just cook something. And he'll be like, well, I'm going to cook like meatloaf. I'm like, well, not that. Exactly! So it can avoid fights. It can help you avoid friction in your marriage. So that's awesome. That's so good. Okay. What has visibility done for your business with AI without AI doesn't matter. Just, I would love to know what is, how, has it supported you in your business growth? it had more of an impact than I thought it would. If you talked to me last year, I'd be like, yeah, whatever, be showing up. Like I would say, since I started strategically around January, a 15 to 20 % increase in sales being me. And like that's like the easiest thing in the world. I'm just me instead of this sanitized version of me. And being visible as me and having opinions and being thoughtful and communicating that and communicating it through the business and with the business and with my clients, I would say that it's a huge impact. There's also the fact that the people I'm connecting with now are already aligned. They're already, I know you because I saw your videos or I heard you on this podcast and I know we can work together. versus just that super duper cold call. So I would say it has a tremendous impact. love that. you an introvert or an extrovert? introvert same. So one of my favorite things about about visibility is I show up to networking events and people know who I am. So I'm socially awkward. Like if I don't know you, it's so awkward. I'm such a weirdo. I own that. But if people come up and talk to me and know who I am, it's like so much easier. And so I'm like, for the introvert who is like, awkward, but you're going to go to actual in person events like visible because it will make all of that awkwardness go away because people already know who you are. So it's like a game changer. Yeah. Yeah. to me, wasn't like, rain today. And what do you do? It's like, I saw that podcast and you talked about this and you talked about that. And how do you do that? Instant conversation. And when you're an introvert, it's like, thank goodness. Yeah. Yeah. So good. So good. All right, let's do some quick fun rapid fire questions. I'm gonna ask you one but I feel like you might have already answered it but you might have another idea too. So the first one I was gonna ask is something AI helps you with in everyday life that most people wouldn't think to use it for. So that is the recipes, but it's also for health management. So looking at the quality of the food. So I can take a picture of something and I'll say, you know what? There's a lot of trans fat in that. You should probably eat less of that in something else. a really, versus like writing out every single ingredient, just a little picture helps. Yeah, I love that. What is a hype song that pulls you out of a funk? my gosh. Holy Mack. darn. You know what? I'm going to go with a super duper classic. like that list could be so lit long. Bohemian Rhapsody will always like, there's no way I'm listening to that song and not singing it by the middle. Yep. And you can't like not be happy singing that song. Yeah. And you get operatic and you're like, by the end of it, you're acting out all the parts. You're like, how did this happen? I'm just, it just came on. Yeah, that's so good. So good. What do you do for downtime? I am a huge anime lover, so I love watching anime and reading manga, hanging out with my family, but yeah, that's kind of it for the extracurriculars. Nice introvert-y things. Yeah. So is there a prompt or an AI prompt that you use every single day without fail? Yes, and it's what's your opinion? And the AI is trained to give me not just an opposing side for an opposing side. So, for example, I have a shot every morning and it's olive oil, cayenne, honey, haskat berry juice, and lemon. And I wanted to change it one day and I said, what's your opinion? I'm thinking of switching the lemon out for kombucha. And I said, Lynn, because you have migraines, the kombucha is known to be a possible migraine trigger. So I really don't think this is a good plan. That what's your opinion has kind of kept me on path and away from missteps more than I can count. So I will put something together and say, what's your opinion? And because it has that history of me and my company and what I'm doing, the opinions are very thoughtful. So every day I use it. So good. And that's so easy. Everybody can remember that everybody can use that and we always want somebody's opinion. I've even done it with clothes like this outfit or this outfit. What's your opinion? And it's interesting like our graphics that I've designed, like which one do you think will be better for my brand? And so I love that. So good. We get to use that more friends. I would say that the time is now. Begin where you are. It doesn't matter if you're tech savvy, it doesn't matter if you're building computers by hand. Begin now, whether it's with AI or putting yourself out there or, you know, as you're talking about your visibility, you have value in who you are and your voice and your opinion and all the beautifulness around you.
